Delta Elite attends the Elite College Showcase Tournament!

On Thursday, November 11th, the Delta Elite travel team hopped on a red-eye flight to Dallas, Texas, to play in the Elite Diamond Sports College Showcase and camp.

We arrived early Friday morning and the team bunked up for nap time in the Hyatt’s presentation room until our rooms were ready for check in. Coaches set out to get the player’s rooms stocked of groceries and snacks.

After check in, Coach K took pitchers and catchers to the Fastpitch Online Showcase Camp held at Craig Ranch Ballyards. The infielders and outfielders continued napping back at the hotel while a few of the girls went with Coach Leah, Coach Sara, and Coach Ron to visit the AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

A couple hours into the camp, Coach K drove back to the hotel to grab the infielders and outfields to bring back to the camp for their time slots. Even though the girls were exhausted from the overnight travel, they worked hard and were determined in standing out to the college coaches who were attending the camp. We were extremely proud at their work ethic, respect and leadership they demonstrated to other players and coaches. After a long day of training or touring the AT&T stadium, the coaches had dinner ready for the girls back at the hotel.

Bright and early Saturday morning, the Delta Elite played Hit Away Gold on diamond 1 at Heritage Yards Ballpark. After the game, the team went back to the hotel to relax and the coaches brought them lunch. The next two games were at 1:15pm versus Dallas Tigers and then at 4:45pm versus Oklahoma Intimidators. The pitching staff threw exceptionally well and held most of the hitters. The outfielders were communicating and coaching each other through the plays. The bats came alive during our last game with Kianna Jones’s triple to center-right and Nicole Sparrows double hit behind the left fielder on the line. Emily Horne also had a single and an RBI. After the games, the team had Newk’s Eatery for dinner back at the hotel and headed to bed.

On Sunday morning, the Delta Elite had an early doubleheader against Texas Cobras Gold and Tulsa Eagles.

The weather was beautiful down in Plano, Texas. There were a lot of college coaches present at the Elite Diamond Sports College Showcase. A few of the coaches had the opportunity to speak to some of our players and were able to share information about their softball programs. It was an exciting weekend! The future possibilities of scholarships became reality to the players. After the double header, the coaches took the team to Stonebriar Centre where they ate lunch in the food court and then went to Dave and Buster’s to blow off some steam. The coaches enjoyed the arcade games just as much as the players. For dinner, the coaches treated the team to some real Texas BBQ.

Despite the long travel to get to Dallas, the weekend was a definite success. The coaches were so impressed with how the players carried themselves and how responsible they were. For our next recruitment tournament, we are heading to the ESPN Winter Sun Classic in Orlando, Florida on January 12-16th.

DSA Takes Over Toronto

The Delta Softball Academy had the opportunity to participate in the YMCA YOUTH EXCHANGE this past year. We twinned up with the Waterloo Ghosts from Ontario for this unique experience. The Waterloo Ghosts came to British Columbia and the Delta Softball Academy traveled to Ontario. Both trips included playing in exhibition games and learning more about that part of Canada. The Delta Softball Academy hosted the Waterloo Ghosts during Spring Break. The Waterloo Ghosts traveled around the lower mainland visiting tourist sites and played against different club teams at North Delta Park and Softball City. Together, the teams did a beach clean up at Crescent Beach. The Delta Softball Academy then traveled to Toronto in the beginning of May. We ran a free softball clinic with the Waterloo Ghosts, played exhibition games against the U18 and U16 Waterloo Ghosts, and visited a variety of tourist sites. Some of the sites included: St. Jacob’s Market, Niagara Falls/Clifton Hill, CN Tower, Hockey Hall of Fame, watching the Blue Jays, and visiting the islands off of downtown Toronto. The team had an amazing time getting to know the Waterloo Ghosts more and being a tourist in another part of Canada. Huge thank you to the YMCA YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM and the Waterloo Ghosts for making this trip such a huge success.
